Spring is finally here – the birds are chirping, the weather is warming up, and you’re looking forward to being able to spend more quality time outside, but what impact will that have on your skin? We all know that despite keeping us warm and giving us great tans, the sun is not our skin’s best friend – exposure to the sun can often lead to skin damage, wrinkles, and premature aging. However, we can’t stay cooped up inside all day, especially when the weather is great.

So how do we keep our skin safe while still having fun in the sun? Thankfully, there are some easy ways to enjoy yourself outside and keep yourself protected too.

Use Sunscreen and SPF

This is a huge one. Ever since we were kids, we’ve been told to slather on the sunscreen and that’s for a good reason: it works. The sun’s ultraviolet rays are extremely dangerous for our skin and not just because tanning for too long can give us nasty sunburns. Exposure to UVA and UVB rays can cause wrinkling, dark spots, and even skin cancer.

So be sure to load up on sunscreen! You can also opt for a daytime moisturizer that contains SPF to give you an extra layer of protection throughout the day.

Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses don’t just look cool, they also keep you safe from damaging the fragile skin around your eyes. If you want to avoid developing crow’s feet and other undesirable fine lines near your eyes, it’s very important to rock a nice pair of shades while you’re spending time outside.

Find Other Ways To Tan

On a hot summer’s day, it can be tempting to head outside and lie down for a few hours to get yourself looking nice and bronze for the beach. However, this is not the safest option. Tanning outside leaves you exposed to all of the risks associated with your skin coming into contact with the sun’s dangerous rays. Thankfully, there are a few ways that you can pull off that golden brown look without putting yourself at risk.

You can use makeup to give yourself a more glowing complexion: a nice bronzer can work wonders for your skin. Spray tanning is another great option for getting a gorgeous summer tan without exposing yourself to danger.

Protect Your Lips

This might not be the first thing on your mind when hitting the beach or heading outside to hang out, but protecting your lips is huge in the warmer months. Spring and summer can expose your lips up to all sorts of sun damage. When you head out, bring a good lip balm with you – especially one with an SPF of at least 15.

The heat can be rough on your lips, so it’s also important for you to regularly moisturize them. Apply a nighttime cream before bed and try to stay hydrated in general. It’s very easy to become dehydrated in the sun as we use more water than we take in.

Stay Covered

We know that the idea of staying covered up in the park or on the beach during a hot day doesn’t sound totally attractive, but it can really help you stay healthier. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should throw a sweater on over your bikini, but you should try to only keep as much skin exposed as necessary. Opt for a wide brimmed hat to protect your face and neck from being exposed to the sun. Even a loose t-shirt can give you an extra layer of protection in between dips in the pool.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Eating well and staying fit never hurts, and that’s especially true when you’re spending a lot of time outside. Giving your body the nutrition it needs. Staying hydrated and exercising regularly can keep you at the top of your game and help your skin protect itself from hazards.

Treat Your Skin

If your skin is feeling tired and worn out, there are refreshing treatments available like BOTOX that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help you regain your youthful glow. These treatments options can often get you great results in very little time.
