What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift surgery (also known as a forehead lift) is a cosmetic procedure that addresses the muscles above the eyes to smooth vertical frown lines and raise sagging brows that may be hooding the upper eyelids, resulting in a smoother, more youthful appearance. This procedure is often combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), rhinoplasty, and facelifts.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?

Brow lifts are most common in patients in the 40- to 60-year age range; anyone who suffers from a lined or drooping forehead — whether due to muscle activity or genetics — is eligible. The procedure is usually performed in an office-based facility or surgery center under local anesthesia and sedation.

Brow Lift Procedure

Brow lifts are performed in one of two ways: through the conventional surgical method (a hairline brow lift or coronal brow lift), in which the incision is hidden beneath the hairline, or with an endoscope, in which a tiny camera and instruments are inserted through a few small incisions for an endoscopic brow lift. Either technique will produce similar results, and through those incisions, excess skin will be removed, and the muscles and remaining skin will be tightened and smoothed out.

Dr. Chaudhari will work with you to determine which option is the best for you during your brow lift consultation.

Recovery

After your brow lift, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. This is completely normal. Dr. Chaudhari will give you a prescription for pain medication and a detailed list of aftercare instructions to follow. You’ll need to keep your head elevated, eat a healthy diet, rest as much as possible, avoid strenuous activities, and abstain from smoking and alcohol.

You’ll likely be off work for 1-2 weeks, depending on the type of job you have. After two weeks, a good portion of the swelling will have subsided, and you’ll start to see your final results. It typically takes several months for the brow to fully settle and your final results to be fully visible.
