Gynecomastia Houston

In males, an overdeveloped or enlarged chest can be the result of losing weight or aging and can cause either extra tissue around the nipples or prominent male breasts. That’s where gynecomastia surgery or male breast reduction comes in!

What is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Male breast reduction surgery or gynecomastia surgery is designed to remove this excess glandular breast tissue and sagging skin. Gynecomastia uses liposuction to remove excess fat, and depending on the result you want to achieve, it may also involve the removal of glandular tissue and loose skin.

Gynecomastia can be caused by a variety of factors, including hormonal changes, anabolic steroids, age, medications, and certain medical conditions.

It’s important to note that gynecomastia is not a form of male breast cancer. That usually involves a lump, not overall breast enlargement.

Who is a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

Ideal candidates for male breast reduction include men in generally good health with realistic expectations who are looking to treat gynecomastia in one or both breasts. We also recommend patients be nonsmokers and have no medical conditions that could negatively affect the healing process. If you’re struggling with enlarged breasts, gynecomastia treatment may be the right option for you.

What to Expect During Gynecomastia Surgery

Your gynecomastia surgery will begin with the administration of general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. From there, Dr. Chaudhari will make incisions around the areola or under the armpit and remove excess breast tissue. He’ll then reshape the breasts and tighten the skin to give you a toned, masculine chest. The nipple and areola may also be repositioned for a harmonious look. Once the incisions are closed, you’ll be ready to start the recovery process.

Gynecomastia Recovery

At the start of your gynecomastia recovery, you will likely notice some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Dr. Chaudhari will give you detailed instructions on how best to care for your incisions and speed up the healing process. You’ll be prescribed medication to help with the discomfort and given a compression garment to ease swelling.

You’ll also need to limit your level of activity, get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, and sleep on your back for at least two weeks. After two weeks, swelling will start going down, and you will start to see your final results.

Gynecomastia Results

It typically takes 3-6 months before most of the swelling has gone down, and you’re able to see exactly what your new chest looks like. Any scarring will fade over time until it’s almost invisible.
